Mr. Electric® Leads Industry in Offering Solar Power Certification

(WACO, TEXAS – JANUARY 15, 2010) As the global economy wrestles with energy questions, household consumers to corporate decision-makers seek cheaper and renewable sources of energy with which to fuel the future. The overall goal is to reduce U.S. dependency on foreign energy sources and create new domestic industries and job growth. Mr. Electric and its 200+ franchise owners are making efforts to lead the way and are proud to announce a new solar power certification program with partner company Essco Wholesale Electric.

All franchise owners in the Mr. Electric system are encouraged to visit the Waco, Texas corporate headquarters for an intensive 40-hour solar power training regimen. Andrew Jones, a solar power specialist with Essco, set up a temporary office in Waco to help guide franchisees and the corporate staff through the intricacies of training. “We‟re in the business of designing high-efficiency solar photovoltaic systems for the long-term benefit of our customers,” Jones said. “To achieve this, we are committed to working closely with Mr. Electric franchisees and staff to ensure quality training and educational standards.”

Jones went on to explain the four-step process followed. “When designing a solar system for a home, we can‟t use a „one size fits all‟ approach,” he said. “We recognize each structure and consumer is different, with unique and diverse energy usage patterns and needs.”

First, the solar zone is considered. Based on proven meteorological data, the team looks to see how many sunny days per year a given area can expect. Phoenix, for example, will likely see more sun than Seattle. Next, one year of electric bills are reviewed to evaluate energy use patterns and timelines. Third, the available space for solar panels is considered. Last, based on the training they received, Mr. Electric franchisees combine information from the first steps to design the most efficient and cost-effective approach for each customer.

Fresh from solar power training, their service professionals are now fully trained and equipped to install systems, as well as counsel future customers who might benefit from such a system. Five franchise owners have gone through complete training and many more are expected to throughout the year.
